Previous owner’s name penciled on ffep, both volumes. Dealer’s sticker affixed to Vol I front pastedown. Pages clean, unmarked, lightly age toned. Occasional light creasing or wrinkling. Small chip to lower leading edge of plate 126/127. Else, all plates/foldouts intact. Hardee's Rifle and Light Infantry Tactics, a guide for commissioned officers in the training of their command, was completed in 1855 under order of Jefferson Davis, United States Secretary of War, and became the standard instructional manual for the U.S. Army. Although Hardee became a Confederate general, both Confederate and Union armies used the manual during the American Civil War. Scarce as a complete set in this condition.
