Six decorative spine panels with gilt ruling still showing. Gilt lettering “Scott’s Bible” in a red panel, content and volume number in a black panel. Early owner’s name (D.S. Ebersol) in gilt visible at spine tail on some volumes. Publication: Vol. I, 1810, Williams and Whiting; Vol. II & III, 1811, Whiting and Watson; Vols. IV-VI, 1812, Whiting and Watson. Leather shows considerable edgewear, rubbing, scuffing, and scraping with traces of early worm damage. All volumes (except vols. 5 & 6, missing upper portion of ffep): “Nov 15 1829” in ink head of ffep, 2-inch strip excised from leading top corner ffep, “Silas Samson Jr” in ink below excised strip on ffep. All volumes: “D.S. Ebersol Oct 1847” in pencil at head of title page. Vol. I (Genesis through Joshua): Leather cracked through along entire front hinge, but hinge holding. Large chip with significant material loss at head of spine. Spine starting to crack down center for full length of volume. Vol. II (Judges through Esther): 1-inch closed tear at head of spine. Extensive chipping and material loss to leather at tail of spine. Vol. III (Job thru Solomon’s Song): folding and creasing to endpapers. Vol. IV (Isaiah through Malachi): Front hinge cracked through endpaper, but holding. Rear hinge starting. Vol. V (New Testament, Matthew thru Acts): Two short closed tears at head of spine. Both hinges cracked through endpapers, but holding. Early worm damage resulting in loss of upper quarter of ffep and major portions of rfep, rear flyleaf, and nine pages of text. Vol. VI (New Testament, Romans thru Revelations): Two short closed tears at head of spine. Rear hinge starting. Early worm damage resulting in loss of upper quarter of ffep.
